The WYDF2023 Youth Designer Forum Annual Gala is the concluding event of the WYDF Youth Designer Forum 2023, which includes the "Awards Ceremony" and the "Global Finals". Four outstanding young designers from Europe, the Americas, Asia and Greater China were selected after a year-long global solicitation and selection process. On the stage of the 2023 WYDF Youth Forum and Global Finals, they shared the same thing of "design", standing in their own environment, background, personal preferences, etc., to make a loud and wonderful voice for the beautiful occurrence of design; This is a collision of global minds, a special personal experience, and this will be a starting point and a source of reflection for the future. In this issue, we will share the transcript of Mr. Jun Hyung Park's speech , the [WYDF Younth Designer Forum 2023 Global Candidate] from Asia. As a project manager at Pelli Clarke & Partners, with a passion for architecture and attention to detail, he insists on exploring ways to blend different cultural elements and match the current era and local culture. He believes that the comfort and sustainability of the living environment is the responsibility of every designer. As the current cities are expand and diversify, the traditional notions of the design are in transformative shift, and this paradigm I call this I believe is amalgamation. So what does this amalgamation pass were mean? It signifies the power from the conventional, to the wellness, to embrace more inclusive and community centered, and sustainable approach which also kind of correlates to our firm's design principles. The theme consists of four main sections: town-level architecture, social connectivity, community integration, and future-oriented thinking. The topic amalgamation, how this topic was introduced into the design of our firm, I'm gonna start from the Urban-scale architecture interior design, and in the end how these user integrations are applied to. The Urban evolutions project was located at Yibin, and the program was diverse which includes the office public space, hotel service, apartment residents and even cultural venues. Because of those diverse program, also the target users we are targeting were many different types. We started from the site analysis, we found that the Yibin tradition historically, the water was the crucial element to transfer goods, people and resources, and in the modern times these water elements are transformed into the high-speed rail. Yibin was the focal point to connect four major cities includes Chongqing, Chengdu, Guiyang and Kunming, and there were two train stations which was pretty close back to our design area, so it was very important to make that into considerations that how the people deliver from the stations to our design. Inspired by life, nature, geography, local culture and specialty flavors. I was inspired by the bamboo forest which was also one of the cultural feature in the Yibin, and interestingly how the bamboo itself was formed, they share the same root of the bamboo but the different buds are coming out, so we were trying to implement these kind of ideas into our logic of master planning. Through the circulations of the continuous circulations from the train stations, you can see the hints of the bamboo. Also the form of the tower we were trying to implement the bamboo form the museum was resemblance of the bamboo shoot. We introduced the waterway which was also one of the main features of this over master planning, and also because for sustainable reasons. We were thinking for this Central Park was the cross laminated timber, so that it gives the feeling of more natural. There was a dry fountain retention pond for the sustainable reasons to filter the water systems. It's a hotel project in Shenzhen, because it has this Qianhai bay view, the view analysis was very important for this project. Most of the hotel projects they really care about how to accommodate the people, how to make the people to make their rest experience in the hotels to be most enjoyable, but then this client was actually looking something different through this hotel. They don't only focus on people to rest here but they want to make the people experience a lot of different stuffs including the gym, even the cinema and food and some different type of events. The remodeling and renovation type of plaza project is a restoration of tradition, historical environment or sentiment, as well as an input of ideas for current development. It was located in Shanghai, our challenge was how to make this work the retail and the office? We were trying to make more of the event space, we were trying to make the urban playground and the idea marketplace for the retail. We were introducing like the sculptural communicating stairs, creating this kind of more event museum space; We make this entrance to be more focal and of course the corridor of the entrance to be, with more sculpture and the ceilings it becomes more exuberant. Privacy is very important in a space, and with the growing desire for interaction, the office space as a "public area" has a new mission. So we had to insert these kind of different programs into, this program and we wanted to create a new DNA on this site. As you can see we were trying to make every buildings, not just like there were four different buildings we started off, but we were trying to make this to be connected into one. The 2023 WYDF Youth Designer Forum · Global Finals were held, and it wouldn't be complete without the strong support of various design guests from around the world! They listened to the voices of the youth, offering affirmation and expectations. They provided precise perspectives, engaged in in-depth design discussions with candidates, delving into the future of design. It wasn't just about each individual work but also about envisioning the future of design. We invited Mr. Siza Cham, Executive Chairman of WYDF Youth Designers Forum Greater China, and eight authoritative instructors and experts in the field of international interior architecture and design from China, the United States, Italy, Singapore and other countries to form the WYDF2023 international jury. They are: Conway Ma (USA), Carlos Marreiros(Macau, China), Andrea Giordano (Italy), Carlo Beltramelli (Italy), Ricky Wong (Hong Kong, China), Wesley Liu(Hong Kong, China), Shane Ang Chee Sheng (Singapore) and Eric W.Tsay (USA). Mr. Andrea Giordano:Thank you for your presentation very interesting project, the thing that I appreciate is your community integration that you developed in a very good way, especially in a human centric way. For also the development of green corridors and so on are very interesting, I want to know only the sustainable approach and the feedback of your sustainable approach onto this kind of projects. For the Yibin, the first project, there were two aspects we were thinking. One is we were trying to make the pedestrians most of the communities to be pedestrian-friendly, not only the ground floor but also the second floor, underground floor. The second approach was by implementing the water along this public park area, We were trying to make the cities to be a sponge city, and also make this water filtration systems to be self water filtered as much as possible, thank you. Mr. Shane Ang Chee Sheng:I think both of your architectural work I think they are quite nicely done. For the first project about the urban design, I have a question about what was the logic behind having the second level connections to all the different plots of the land, and what was that relationship to the existing train station that was there? The second pedestrian actually started from the front plaza, but not directly from the train station. As you said one of the reasons started from the front plaza is because as I showed in the diagram, we wanted to make the second floor of the train stations to be vehicle, only so pedestrian doesn't intermingle with the vehicle circulation systems. Mr. Shane Ang Chee Sheng:Because Your second levels for all the ports that you have was for pedestrian right, but then right in front of the train station, you actually destinated it for cars, so I think that's why you know there is some I think there is some conflicts there. But you know one thing that's commendable for that project was the observation towards the existing terrain, and how you envision the park to be you know become. But maybe just a reminder I think when architects do urban design you always want to show our Form making, but sometimes actually it's more important to look at how this urban design would help the society after. Thank you. Mr. Conway Ma:Actually I appreciate how you do your presentation, you kind of make it clear what's the requirement and what is importance of the mission of the project, like how you bring people from the station to the site efficiently, and how you address that by separated circulation. Also I like you integrate, and kind of get inspired from the local nature elements like the bamboo. But obviously you didn't time your presentation well, so I would like to give you the opportunity to kind of summarize your design philosophy overall for all the projects. So as I said my topic as amalgamation, I believe these days before in architecture most of the place they strictly, they care more about the privacy and they strictly categorize the program in different function. But nowadays I realized that different users even the same user actually needs like many different program activities within the same space same architecture. How to make these kind of integrations to work, and then make this kind of with the notion of the community center, and sustainable approach is the future of the architecture, as a designer has to tackle this kind of integration of the program. Mr. Wesley Liu:Brilliant presentation I loved it a lot, unfortunately, you ran out of time. Because we have WYDF to promote diverse culture exchange, During your design process would you ever try to inject different culture into that local context that I would like you to explain a little bit more. For the Shanghai Plaza, we were trying to implement from the European or the western way of thinking of the retail because like pop-up stores, we were trying to implement this kind of more of a street kind of within the architecture, we wanted to implement the pop-up stores from street retail vibes into the originally retail architecture. A client at first they were suspect that will be beneficial to them, because they're not sure if the renter the leasing person would like to have that but then there was a lot of long conversation almost a year with them, and then we had a lot of communication with them persuade the clients, and then in the end we kind of tried to merge this kind of different culture into the local culture. Mr. Eric W.Tsay :Many good sustainable practice in your project and which is very good, also would like to know how or if local culture was incorporated into your project, so if you can elaborate a bit more so we can understand more. Thank you. I'm gonna make again the Yibin project as a reference. So we did like bamboo and also like the river, the city flower, and the dragon, a lot of culture reference and then we of course did a lot of options of study, and then we presented to the government. Yibin had actually the one of the biggest bamboo forests, and they really like this kind of cultural reference, so in the end we were trying to implement this as a big master concept. But still we were trying to implement some other concept as you can see the Central Park, you can see this kind of dragon shape or some kind of, we were trying to make some hints of this kind of other cultural reference as well. 发起主办机构 :广州设计周、英国GloW-DESIGN、美国SC集合设计学院 学术支持机构 :澳门科技大学 全球战略合作伙伴 :柏尔地板 奖杯荣誉承 :达明集团 特约合作媒体 :广州设计周媒体联盟、iDesign绝对设计、FRAME框架、日本设计小站、belong、Luce e Design(意大利)、ARCHIWORLD世界之旅 设计报奖平台 :设计纪元 全球联盟机构 : Tokyo Design Week(日本)、NCS Color Academy(瑞典)、Izmir Ekonomi University(土耳其)、Scandinavian Branding Academy(丹麦)、Chabros International Group(阿联酋)、Sensu Communications(加拿大)、vectorfield architects(日本)、EarthenHive Architects(印度)、SchilderScholte architects(荷兰)、Creative Capital(意大利)、Constann Design(新加坡)、Cameron Woo Design(新加坡)、Irene Pansadoro Design(意大利)、FASHION·CULTURE·DESIGN(英国)、Insight School of Interior Design(香港)、Serenity Made Co.Ltd(意大利)、Raptor Global Corporation Ltd(澳大利亚)、Karan Grover & Associates(印度)、Beltramelli Interior Detailor(意大利)、Art Canton(中国)、Yigao Culture(中国)、Association of Professional Interior Designers(阿联酋)、Council for International Accreditation of Architecture & Design(阿联酋)- 战略合作伙伴 - 浙江柏尔木业有限公司,是一家专业致力于实木地热地板研发、销售、以及高端实木地面定制的木地板企业,总部位于“中国木地板之都”——浙江南浔。
